Top 7 Safest Residential Localities in Bangalore for Singles

If you are a single that prioritises safety of the location you live in on the top of your list, here’s seven safest residential localities in Bangalore to give you a head start with your search.

Before we start, here’s a little reality check, the very fact that you are a single in a new city or country, puts you in the vulnerable category list (There I said it!). Yes I know, you probably are that macho guy full of adrenalin, claiming to be on a quest to conquer the world and looking for new adventure, ‘BUT’, the city sometimes is more macho than we can imagine. The key is to respect the city and I’m sure it will respect you in return. The City of Bangalore has had it’s fare share of horrific stories in the past but I must say they have been learning experience for a lot of us in a lot of ways.

With that being said, I’ve done a little research to help you settle in. If you are looking to see what localities are safe and trending in Bangalore, here’s seven handpicked safest residential localities in Bangalore that will give you a head start.

#1. Sarjapur –

Sarjapur is a little town situated towards the south-east of Bangalore. It’s a fast developing locality with really good connectivity to other key localities in Bangalore like Whitefield, Electronic City, Outer Ring Road, Marathahalli, Koramangala and more. Sarjapur is also home to some IT giants which has seen a lot of IT professionals and especially young aspiring singles settle in and around the area.

Sarjapur is also surrounded by a huge layer of green belt land which gives it a mix of both green and city life. So if you are looking to escape the noise of the city, you are not too far away from fresh air of the green belts.

Sarjapur is a great locality to live in and despite it’s only recent developments, is a safe locality, as the locals claim. The police station is well connected to surrounding areas and have been seen patrolling the area constantly to see to the well being of the people.

#2. Electronic City –

Electronic City needs no introduction. As the name suggests, it is the hub for one of not just Bangalore’s, but India’s largest electronic industrial parks which spreads over 800 acres. Electronic City was established by Keonics, Karnataka Electronic, A pioneer in information technology infrastructure development. There are approximately 200 IT companies located in this area. Electronic city maybe a little away from the mainstream city but compensates it’s residents with slightly lower costs of living.

Why is it great for singles? Well lets face it, a lot of us millennials are here to sky rocket our careers. What better place to be than at the rocket station?

A few years ago when it was a lesser developed area, you may or may not of heard about the spooky stories that arose from this vastly secluded land. It’s a far more developed area now and you can be certain that the many people I personally know, are having the time of their lives living here. Shorter distances to work places, well developed infrastructure, heightened security, great connectivity are just few of the many benefits of living in Electronic city.

Women have a bonus living in this area, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation runs special ‘women-only buses’ that operate between Electronic city and Central Silk Board during peak hours. This is a first of it’s kind service that is dedicated to women working in IT, keeping in mind their safety.

That’s not all! E-city as they call it, is bustling with investors of high stature. It’s planned to be soon transformed into a smart city converted into a ‘living lab’ and believed to be offering urban services of global standards.

You might want to grab your space before its all gone.

#3. Koramangala

Koramangala is considered an elite locality in Bangalore with one of the largest neighbourhoods, situated in the south-eastern part of the city. It’s a highly sought-after residential locality, with wide tree-lined boulevards and a mix of luxury apartments, commercial structures, and posh bungalows.

Koramangala is also considered as the start up hub of Bangalore and houses some of the offices of great startups that originated in Bangalore. Even the great Flipkart was a product of Koramangala.

There is never a dull moment in Koramangala, there’s just something to do at every hour of the day and perhaps the night even. Koramangala is lined up with some of the most posh clubs, bars, restaurants, cafes and malls that attract young singles from even other localities of the city.

There has been such a major transformation in Koramangala from a few years ago when the locality was compared to a jungle, that the area would now seem foreign to an old time resident from traditional days.

With the well lit streets and the ever bustling residents, you just can’t go wrong with Koramangala. There’s always a feeling of comfort just from the vibes it emits. Then of course you have extra layers of security with not just the police patrolling the area but also from security guards that nearly every other house hold employs. Koramangala has also been cited to have the most frequent Hoysala (police patrol jeeps) movement in and around the area with quick response on summoning.

#4. HSR Layout

HSR Layout, short for Hosur-Sarjapur Road Layout, is a relatively new suburb located in south-east BengaluruIndia. It has become a gateway to Electronic City, as mentioned earlier, a major IT hub of the city.

You wouldn’t believe me if I told you HSR Layout a few years ago was just a huge land mass filled with water. However, the locality now has emerged as a posh and elite space with wide streets, parks and all the modern civic amenities one could ask for.

Today HSR Layout is one of the most sorted out residential localities because of it’s true essence of residential spaces. The traffic in this locality is comparatively lesser than most parts of the city. You are taken care of pretty well with some of the best schools, hospitals, cafes, restaurants, clubs, tree lined avenues and much more.

HSR Layout is also home to a lot of start ups and that put together with the NIFT college, makes it a location thriving with young single individuals. Believe me, you’re going to fit right in!

#5. Indiranagar

Indiranagar is a medium-sized neighbourhood in east BangaloreKarnatakaIndia. Designed as a suburb post-independence, it is one of Bangalore’s newer areas and has seen an influx of migrants from around the country. It is bounded by the Ulsoor to the west, Domlur to the south, Byappanahalli to the north and Vimanapura to the east. Indiranagar is one of the most expensive localities in Bangalore.

Like Koramangala, Indiranagar is also turning out to be another hub for startups around the country. Indiranagar was named after the former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi. Today, this locality is an important residential and commercial hub for many singles residing in Bangalore. It has seen some massive transformation over the last few years and has got the reputation for being one of the most elite localities in Bangalore.

Indiranagar is not for the faint hearted. It’s real estate comes with some of the most hefty price tags in the whole of the city. However this price tag is not for no reason. Indiranagar houses a long chain of posh pubs, cafes, designer showrooms, restaurants, transportation connectivity and much more! They say you get what you pay for and let me tell you Indiranagar doesn’t disappoint. So singles while you are still single, shop till you drop, before you have someone else do the shopping while you are doing the dropping ( if you know what I mean ;))

With the Namma Metro Purple Line connecting Indiranagar to other key parts of the city, this locality is just so hard to pass by. The only thing that might come in the way maybe your budget. This locality is a perfect mix between the bustling city and quietly lined residential layouts. You get the best of both worlds. You’re in good hands, I’d say.

#6. Whitefield

Whitefield’s history goes back to 1882, when in a generous moment, the then Maharaja of Mysore, Chamaraja Wodeyar granted 3,900 acres for the creation of a settlement where the European and Anglo-Indian communities could build homes and raise farms.

I’ve visited whitefield a few years ago when I was a lot younger. Whitefield always gave me the old rustic and sometimes creepy feeling of being in a ghost town. It just seemed that secluded at the time and was emitting vibes that every person on the road had a scary story to tell.

Having said that, it’s been a few years now, I visit whitefield nearly every weekend to play football. On my first visit I still remember not being able to recognise the place. It’s blossomed into a crazy hub for multinational information technology companies. The vibes are a lot different now and I must say it brought me right back to feeling at home.

Ever since, Whitefield has started seeing a boom, not just in companies but a lot of residential constructions, you are just spoilt for options. Nearly every couple of yards is set up with Malls, Pubs, Restaurants, cafe’s and more! One of the highlights of whitefield if you ask me, are the malls. There are about eight huge shopping malls in the vicinity of of the area. It also has seen numerous Luxury Hotels, International schools and Hospitals make their way to what might arguably be considered one of Bangalore’s most preferred and possibly expensive localities to live in.

Whitefield has great connectivity into town with busses and cabs shuttling back and forth frequently. With the new metro plan in sight, Whitefield is well on it’s way to being my favourite locality for this list’s pick.

There is more! Whitefield also has the Sri Sathya Sai Super Specialty Hospital in Whitefield which offers medical services for free of cost. I mentioned earlier that I travel to Whitefield to play football. Wonder why? Whitefield has some of the most elite gyms, sports infrastructures and marathons for the health conscious people of Bangalore.

I could go on but let me stop before Whitefield becomes an article of its own. There’s so much happening, so many things going on in this locality. I don’t think there is any need to mention that it’s a relatively safe place for singles planning on setting up nest here.

#7. Bellandur

Bellandur is a suburb in south-east BangaloreKarnataka India. It is bounded by HSR Layout to the west, Devarabisanahalli to the east, Sarjapur Road to the south, and the Bellandur Lake to the north. The Bellandur Lake is the largest lake in Bangalore, and separates Bellandur from the HAL Airport. The Outer Ring Road passes through Bellandur, making the area an important transit point between east and south Bangalore.

Bellandur was more or less a barren land a few years ago up until early 2000 where IT infrastructure slowly began to emerge. It is home to some rich history which even today reveals artefacts from the Western Ganga Dynasty in the 10th Century CE.

The real estate in Bellandur is affordable in prices compared to a lot of the other parts of the city. This locality houses many IT professionals, thanks to the huge tech parks and infrastructure.

Bellandur is constantly buzzing with the lights and sounds of the city due to its close proximity to the tech parks. Be it in the morning or in the night, you have vehicles and technology professionals shuffling back and forth from their homes to the offices.

You just can’t go wrong with Bellandur. I looked up the news and I really didn’t find any nasty or horrific reporting in the last couple of years (not that I was set on finding something). So I’d say this locality would be a pretty safe bet.

There you have it, my list of top seven safest residential localities in Bangalore for singles like you and me. If you are new and have questions about the city of Bangalore, leave me a comment and I’ll do my best to answer your questions. Here’s wishing you the best in choosing your ideal locality. May the force be with you!
